A doctor’s certificate or sick certificate, is a document issued by a healthcare professional confirming someone’s health condition and usually used as proof for various reasons such as taking leave from work or school, or for travel purposes. When a health practitioner assesses someone’s health through a virtual medium and issues the certificate, it’s called an online medical certificate.
Obtaining a medical certificate or doctor’s certificate online is a straightforward process. All you have to do is complete a brief online questionnaire, which includes providing your payment details. Your responses will be carefully reviewed by a registered Australian online doctor or nurse practitioner, who is fully accredited by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Upon approval, the certificate will be promptly emailed to you and also sent via SMS for your convenience.
After submitting your information online, a licensed Australian doctor or nurse practitioner will thoroughly review it. They will evaluate the severity of your medical condition and its clinical viability to decide whether to approve the doctor's certificate. It's important to note that not all requests are automatically approved. If necessary, you may be advised to visit a local GP in person for further evaluation and assistance.
Yes, medical certificates issued by an Australian government-registered doctor or nurse practitioner are valid. They should be accepted by your employer, school, insurance company, or travel partner. In Australia, doctors are generally discouraged from issuing backdated medical certificates, as this is considered unethical and may have legal consequences. Medical certificates are meant to accurately reflect a patient's health status at the time of consultation. Therefore, to maintain integrity and accuracy, doctors are expected to issue certificates with the actual date of assessment.
No, you do not need a Medicare card for a doctor’s certificate online.
Medical certificates, whether obtained online or through in-person consultations, are recognized as legitimate legal documents. Certificates issued by telehealth doctors are broadly accepted across Australia and are considered equivalent to those obtained through in-person consultations. However, certain employers, universities, and schools may have specific sick/leave policy guidelines that necessitate an in-person appointment. It is advisable to verify the leave policy guidelines with the relevant institution. QuickGP medical certificates are issued by Australian registered doctors or nurse practitioners, ensuring compliance with all regulatory standards. Consequently, our online sick certificates should be accepted by any employer, university, or school as they are always issued after a consultation with the patient. Additionally, we strictly adhere to patient confidentiality protocols, ensuring that your health and personal information remains secure and is not disclosed to your employer, university, or school.
The time required to receive an online carer certificate can vary based on several factors, such as the platform used, the availability of healthcare professionals, and the urgency of your situation. Typically, when you consult with us, you can obtain a certificate for carer’s leave within 90-120 minutes after completing the questionnaire. However, please note that a doctor must first validate the request for clinical viability, have a tele-consult with you and the certificate will only be issued upon fulfilling all these pre requisites.
The duration of coverage for a medical or carer certificate varies based on individual circumstances and the healthcare provider’s assessment. Typically, these certificates cover the period deemed necessary by the healthcare professional, which may range from a single day to multiple days, depending on the severity and duration of the medical condition or caregiving responsibilities. It is important to discuss your specific needs during the consultation to ensure the certificate appropriately addresses your situation. Generally, same-day certificates for medical or carer purposes are issued for one day. Multi-day certificates can be issued for up to three days from the date of the consultation.
